Social Selling Index (SSI)
The Social Selling Index (SSI) is a LinkedIn score from 0 to 100 that rates your social selling effectiveness across four equally weighted areas: professional brand, finding the right people, engaging with insights, and building relationships.
SSI breaks into four pillars worth 25 points each. Establishing your professional brand rewards a complete profile and published content. Finding the right people rewards targeted searches and profile views. Engaging with insights rewards sharing and interacting with relevant content. Building relationships rewards connecting with and being accepted by decision-makers. LinkedIn recalculates the score daily and shows it to you free at its Social Selling Index page, and it also compares you to your industry and network.
The score is directional, not gospel. It measures activity that correlates with social selling, but it can be gamed by simply doing more of the tracked behaviors, so a high SSI is not proof of results, and a modest one does not mean your content is failing. Treat it as a checklist of habits LinkedIn wants to see rather than a scoreboard of business outcomes. The honest signals of whether your presence works are conversations started, followers earned, and pipeline moved, none of which SSI directly measures.
Still, it is useful as a free diagnostic. If one of the four pillars is dragging, it usually points at a real gap, a thin profile, no posting, or no outreach, worth fixing regardless of the number.
